Settling In

To most people, a 735 sqft house is pretty small, but to a family used to living in 240 sqft, it is pretty big! Even for our family of five, we have plenty of room. There is plenty of room for us to pass in the hall without turning sideways, and the whole house does not shake when one of the kids jumps off their bed. And, perhaps best of all, Rob and I no longer sleep in the living room, so I do not have to make our bed every night and put it back away in the morning! What a treat to just crawl into bed when we are ready!

Rob is really enjoying his new position. He works with a great group of guys, and there are a lot of projects to look forward to. The kids started school last Tuesday, but there was no school Thursday through Monday, so they had a nice long break. They are really liking their classes and teachers. Liam was already able to go on a field trip to the junior high, which he will attend next year.

We have been trying to split our time between getting the house cleaned up and organized, and exploring the area. There is so much to see that we want to go do it all now, but we have to keep reminding ourselves that we will be here for a long time, and will have lots of time to explore and hike. But who wants to stay home and clean when there are so many amazing things to see?!

Peej decided that she really wanted a new radiator, so we have already found a good repair shop in town, and since the kids had to be picked up from school while she was still in ‘surgery,’ I also had the pleasure of getting to know the local taxi service! At this rate, we will know the ins and outs of town in no time!

Everyone is settling in just fine, including Charbie, Remi, and Hammy. We are all getting used to our new house, new town, new school, new job, new surroundings. And we are all loving it. There is something here for everyone, and I think we are going to be busy exploring for a long time to come.

  1. Wow, beautiful view and impressive neighbors! I still can’t believe Liam is old enough for Jr. High school.

  2. I think I can guess where you are! Met a wonderful ranger there from Crystal Lake, IL (neighboring where I raised my kids), and sought him out on our next visit, too. Still there, weeding the kiva pits. If you meet Les, say ‘hi’ from me!
