Any Ideas?

When I get up in the morning, I usually have a list of a dozen things or so that I would like to get done during the day. Simple things. Help the kids with their summer workbooks, clean out my closet, blog before 10pm, read a little bit – both on my own and with the kids, take the kids to the park, patch some holes on a stuffy or two.

And yet, no matter how busy I am during the day, I rarely get anything done. I guarantee you I’m not eating bon-bon’s and watching Oprah, but I can’t tell you exactly what I am doing. Even the daily chores, like keeping up on the laundry, making the bed and doing the dishes, don’t always get done. How is this possible?

I had planned many things for this summer. Activities with the kids, projects around the house, lots of reading. I realized yesterday that I can’t cross anything off my list yet, and then I almost cried when I realized we are already a month into summer! I think part of my problem is thinking that the days are longer than they really are. When the day is brand new, I have the whole day to get things done. But time, time is not my friend. It teases me with 16 hours of daylight and then takes them away before I have even gotten started.

I guess I am not very good at prioritizing. I am sure there are ways to do it so you can get everything done in a day, I just haven’t figured any of them out yet. I have taken the kids out to play almost every day so far this summer, so I’ve got that one down, but what about the rest of my daily goals? How do I squeeze them in? How do I make the best use of my time while still enjoying summer vacation? Any ideas? Because here it is, 11pm, my closet is still a mess, the dishes aren’t done, and my book, which I have yet to touch today, is still waiting patiently for its turn.

  1. You are doing the most important thing..playing with your children.
Closets, beds, clean dishes will all be there tomorrow but children are not children for long and once that is passed there is no turning back the clock. It is gone forever.

So play with your children and let the rest take care of itself ( unless the ‘magic fairy’ comes acalling.

  2. I’m with misswhiplash. There are more important things in life than housework. I know, look at my house, but I have so many other things I want to do, and enjoy doing, instead. My house is picked up but not cleaned, the dishes only get done every few days, laundry is climbing up the wall waiting for it’s day of the week, and I’m fine with that. Relax, enjoy what’s left of your summer, and most of all, enjoy your children. You’ll never get this time again.
