Just last weekend I was wondering how long it would be until we started seeing goslings down at the river. My question was answered today. While looking through the newspaper, I came across a picture of a goose and her goslings. I could hardly contain my excitement. They’re here!!! They’re here!!! Guess where we went after school?
That’s right, we headed down to the Missouri River. There were goslingless goose couples floating around together, groups of geese, ducks, seagulls and… goslings. Lots and lots of fuzzy little balls of irresistible cuteness.
A million and a half pictures later, and after being hissed at several times for getting too close, we decided it was time to head over to the pond at the park. There we saw a pair of swans swimming around like they owned the place.
Of all the birds we saw today, goslings included, my absolute favorite was a pretty little girl we met just before leaving. She came up to see if we had any food, and she stuck around long after she realized we didn’t. She had the sweetest face. There was something special about her and I wished desperately that I had had something tasty to give her. I was secretly hoping she would follow us home…
