Getting To Know The Pioneer Woman

Ree Drummond. Until today, I had never even heard of her. I saw in the paper that she was coming to the Art Show for a speaking engagement, but I didn’t know who she was.

A friend of mine had purchased a couple of tickets to hear her speak and hopefully get her cookbook signed. Since she had an extra ticket, I had the pleasure of attending the event with her.

Ree started out as a blogger. In the beginning, she blogged about her family. Then she started another blog about cooking. Then one about photography. And another about home and garden. Then homeschooling. She eventually combined them all into one big website. Plus, she has another website that is for sharing recipes.

She has written a cookbook, The Pioneer Woman Cooks, and most recently, Black Heels to Tractor Wheels – A Love Story. The latter of these is being made into a movie. She has cooked with Paula Deen and Bobby Flay. She has been on The View and Good Morning America. She homeschools her four children and takes photographs of her ranch life.

Her speech tonight was very enjoyable. She really knows how to entertain with her stories, even though she claims that she is not good at public speaking. She even ended by singing Endless Love with slide show pictures of a dog named Charlie.

I find her to be inspirational. She is a woman who took something that she enjoyed, and she ran with it. Maybe it went further than she ever expected, but she is doing what she loves. Every day. And for her, it all started with a blog.

  1. Glad you got to get out for some time for yourself. Were you able to get her book and have her sign it? Keep on a blogging. Look where it could end up! Besides the fact that we thoroughly enjoy reading your blogs every day! The miles don’t seem so far and we get to see what you and your family are up to on a daily basis. We love you guys!!!:)

    • They had some copies of her books for purchase, but they sold out in about 3 seconds! We didn’t even wait in the autograph line. After her speech, we just wandered around through the rooms full of art. When we left, a little over an hour later, the line for signing was still at least a few hundred people!

  2. Maybe, just maybe you saw a little bit of yourself in her? Keep blogging, and keep up the photography please, your fans enjoy it!
