Farewell Summer

Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn.  ~Elizabeth Lawrence

If I am to be totally honest, summer is one of my very favorite things.  A part of me wishes it could always be summer.  Perhaps, though, it is the variety of seasons that make us appreciate them.  If summer never left, maybe it wouldn’t mean so much anymore.  Maybe the heat would become too much.  I am not sure, though.  I have a hard time believing that I would ever tire of the warmth.  The late summer evenings.  The flowers and trees.  But everything must come to end, even if only temporarily.  It is not even officially fall yet, but we had our first snow today.  Part of me thinks that the sooner it starts, the sooner it will be over.  And the other part says, please, not yet.  All seasons are beautiful in their own ways, but for me, none compare with the freedom of summer.
